Redoing My Portfolio…..

Hey once again guys! I am Nick from Klass.Media. In the last article, you would have read that I am going forward with working on content creation as a career. This means making content of course. In this article, I want to go over my new portfolio.

I wrote another article about just going for it and making a portfolio to get your momentum going. The nice thing is that photography, like any other skill is a lifelong learning process. The more you do it, the better you get. At the time of putting together those images, I was really trying to select the best I remained with in my eyes. What I came up with was not bad at all but I have a better selection now. I have not yet decided what type of photography I want to do so I have been trying my hand at many different styles. In this series, I have some portrait, landscape, abstract, and outdoor images. I want to go through them one by one and give my thoughts.

1.Diego Portrait: I have known this guy since 2007. On this trip a couple months back, I met him where his family has a home in Colombia. Diego went to university in Argentina to study direction of photography and film. We decided to go out for a walk with the cameras. This was a very underexposed shot and so in the editing process I found that black and whit was the way to go. If you look closely you will see the grain in the image but it is not broken. I really like the way the shadows fall around the eyes. This a good example of why you should not delete your images if they look too dark on the camera body. See image below.

2.Mr Hincapie: I think this is the one that gave me a new spark again. This was a special day for all of us. A friend was getting married and there we were. At a beautiful ranch specially made for weddings. In the groom’s room, the men were busy playing pool. Let me say that I really like the composition in this image. The way how you see his eyes through the sunglasses and your follow the pool stick to the ball at the end. The more I look at it I like it more. I would probably like learn how to take the reflection off the sunglasses but other than that I think this is an amazing shot of a man playing pool. See image below.

3.Frontera: This has to be the best product shot I have. The bottom is a little dark but I think that is fine. The Idea is clear. Wine was served and I took the chance to snap some shots. I like the way the light highlights whit on the glass. The blur of the man in the background pulls the image together making the composition not empty. Maybe a drip running down the bottle would have made it that more juicy. See image below.

4.The Happy Couple: I feel so grateful to have been invited to this wedding. I took many shots and out of all the pictures I have of this day, I decided upon this one. I like it. I need to learn to touch up the teeth and remove the dog. I noticed but maybe others may not and I think the bride and groom were very satisfied with all the edits they got. Notice the Darth Vader on the cuff. They made marriage look good and in this photo I think it shows their happiness. There is another image of these two later on. Tell me which you find better. See image below.

5.Flowers: My portfolio won’t be complete without a picture of flowers. Colombia is world famous for its flowers and in this image you can probably see why. I just had the chance to observe this arrangement and this was the result. I am pretty happy with it. I intend to place this on a t-shirt with a black background. I can’t wait to figure that process out and give my opinion on it. Look out for that. See image below.

6.Colombian Highland: When I first saw this picture I really did not think much about it. I have many landscape photos that I use as my screensaver. Going through the batch a second time, I really fell in love with it. It seems that I can be very extreme sometimes. Personally, I enjoy the contrast between the layers in the landscape. These are the type of images I see on Pinterest with motivational speeches. See image below.

I will leave it at six for now. I think that is just the right number for now. The idea is to replace the portfolio I have now and over time come up with one style. I hope you like these and you can give some feedback in the comments section. As I continue shooting in new places, I am sure there will be enough to redo this any number of times. Thanks again. Peace.
